A
Note from Dom |
|
There's plenty of excitement when diving in South Africa
where you will find ample Big Animal action!
But, for unbeatable adventure diving, we have to say
that the
Sardine Run, a thoroughly unique
natural phenomenon described as the Greatest
"Shoal" On Earth - is certainly one of the most exciting
Big Animal events in the diving world. This event
takes place off the KwaZulu/Natal south coast each June
and July.
Do note that there are always
risks that can mean you get "stood-up". The show
doesn't always go on . . . as we all know there is no
guarantee of animal behavior! However, if you're
up to the challenge, you shouldn't miss a chance to sign
up for this unparalleled underwater wonder which
attracts divers and photographers from around the world
on a yearly basis.
We use several operators in
South Africa –
Tim Ray
from
Dive the Big
Five and
Nic de Gersigny from
Seal Expeditions
amongst others.
We simply cannot
recommend them highly enough.
Also world wildlife photographer, Amos Nachoum, offers
amazing photo expeditions to South
Africa in his extraordinary repertoire of trips,
including one of the best-of-the-best
Sardine Run
options.

Sardine
Run – South Africa |
|
Most years, between May and July,
millions & millions of sardines travel
north from South Africa in what has
become known as the Sardine Run.
Visible even by satellite, these famous
sardine shoals are massive beyond
belief, stretching kilometers in every
direction. But, the experience is
not only about the sardines. This
mass migration draws predators galore,
looking for an easy, free lunch!
Birds plummet from the sky, while ocean
predators attack from below: a plethora
of whales, bronze whalers & dolphins are
all there herding the shoals of sardine
into a "bait ball".
You can join a Sardine Run trip next
year - 7 nights & 6 days at sea during this extraordinary
event. We'll have details here
very soon. In the meantime, don't
hesitate to contact us
