Liveaboards & Resorts
Many divers prefer the live-aboard experience for exploring the vast underwater wonderland in Indonesia but there are several resorts that we highly recommend & which offer equally intoxicating and particularly unique dive adventures.
Let's start with Komodo where you'll find a smorgasbord of excellent choices.
Kararu Voyages' beautiful phinisi schooler, the Cheng Ho, makes several trips per year into Raja Ampat.
In Raja Ampat, Max Ammer’s two resorts – Sorido Bay and Kri Eco Resort offer some of the region’s best diving on their doorstep, while a new resort opening in March 2008 is the Misool Eco Resort.
The following is a list of perhaps our favorite boats in the Archipelago. We'll be adding additional information as the work on the website develops over the next few weeks:
Kararu’s Cheng Ho
Pindito
Komodo Dancer
Seven Seas
Sea Horse
Archipelago Adventurer
Pelagian
Siren
Bidadari
Mona Lisa & Charlie
Ondina
Mermaid I
Odyssea
N.Sulawesi Aggressor
Paisabatu II
Also, the Grand Komodo Fleet offer some excellent options at great value and we have a European group on a Komodo trip aboard the Tarata April 1-8.
The Minahasa Lagoon Resort is considered the finest resort on the mainland with a German/Italian owner and fine attention to detail. Many people feel that the house reef at Minahasa rivals Lembeh Straits and we offer a package to stay at both resorts. The island resorts of Gangga and Siladen are right in the national park and offer unparalled access to the best sites.
The Thalassa DiveCenter at the Santika Hotel and Eco Divers at Tasik Ria, accessible by charter flight, also receive super reviews for their service, hospitality and access to Bunaken’s finest reefs.

Indonesia Overview
This mind boggling destination offers not only world class diving but also immensely fascinating cultural diversity.
Indonesia, with its 17,000+ islands, its roughly 300 different ethnic groups, and its millenniums of history, is one of our favorite places in the world to visit and we've explored it extensively.
There's little doubt that the prime center of bio-diversity, as far as marine life goes, is here in this region of the world.
You have Komodo & the Alor Islands in the south - and the finest of land resorts up north in Sulawesi. Then, you have the remote rush of Raja Ampat in the far eastern region - and Ambon & the Banda Sea in-between.
And of course, one can't forget the wonders of Bali nor the magic of Kalimantan, the Indonesian side of Borneo - where you can not only experience exquisite diving but can also add on a visit to the Orangutan rehabilitation camps.
This island nation offers divers a full spectrum of possibilities.
The archipelago provides invaluable resources to trade & industry, while the seas hold parallel treasures for marine-biologists and divers thanks to the placement of this land mass in one of the great hot-spots of global seismic and volcanic activity, which breeds plentiful & unusual underwater life.
Diving opportunities abound . . . and the variety is as vast as the archipelago itself.
♦ Should you be seeking fabulous wall dives, throbbing schools of fish, the captivating colors of diverse reef fish and healthy coral gardens - you can find them in Indonesia.
♦ If you want the world's best “muck” diving - searching for the tiniest & most extravagant of Earth’s creatures - you can find it in Indonesia.
♦ If you want a mix of big animals - mantas, sharks, dolphins & whales - calm waters or ripping currents - even a bit of wreck diving . . . you can find it all in Indonesia.
Not, however, all in one spot.
And that’s where we come in. We'll walk you through the basics here but then we invite you to contact us for more details - and for personal guidance based on our experience & your individual interests.
But let's start with this question: where’s the best diving in Indonesia?

News Updates
As of June 2008, the Ocean Rover has permanently moved from its long-term home in Thailand, to new owners in Indonesia and will operate from Manado for part of the year and Raja Ampat at other times.
Max Ammer, an early pioneer of Raja Ampat diving where he built and operates two resorts, Kri Eco Resort and Sorido Bay, is finally realizing his dream to operate what promises to be one of the top live-aboards in Raja Ampat. The Papuan Antares is Max’s 150 foot dreamboat – formerly a naval vessel - which is still undergoing major re-construction in a Dutch yard but planning to start operations at the end of 2008.
With deluxe accommodations for 16-18 persons in 9 cabins, she will operate with 3 tenders of no more than 6 divers each, offering the option to choose your style of diving. It will also be fully set up for rebreathers and Tec diving, with its own recompression chamber on board. Scheduled trips will be 11 nights starting on a Sunday and will include “house reef” diving on Saturdays. Will keep you posted as it progresses but let us know if you need any details on his proposed “off the beaten track dive adventures”
Another new addition to the luxury end of the market is the Peter Hughes Paradise Dancer which started operations in April 2008, with itineraries in North Sulawesi & Raja Ampat.
