Micronesia always ranks high on a diver's list of the world's top destinations.

A Personal Note from Dominick

Galapagos.

What's so special about it?

For me, it's the ultimate Wildlife Park on the planet.

Before you even hit the water your senses are bombarded by the animals on land - the sea lions, the fregate birds, the blue-footed boobies, the iguanas . . .

Then you dive in and find yourself surrounded by masses of jack fish, playful sea lions, dolphins . . .

And each region of the park offers something different.  So on your liveaboard, you cruise from island to island to sample the magic of different underwater worlds.

It's been 20 years since I first visited the Galapagos - in its still very pristine state.  Many trips later, I am happy to be able to report that even on my latest visit, just a year ago, I found that in spite of  the inevitable changes that time brings, these islands are still amongst the 3 or 4 premier diving destinations in the world.

In fact, my most-sensational-ever diving experience took place  here in 2005 - when I found myself gazing directly into the eye of a giant Whale Shark, a mere arms-length away from me, and I felt her daring me to join her in a descent, delving the deep as far as a sensible diver could go!

It was exhilarating beyond words.

The list of reasons to visit the Galapagos is far too long to include here, but if you're ready to hear more, I'm an email away and will respond to your request with any additional details that you wish.

       MICRONESIA LIVEABOARDS & RESORTS

Overview

With its variety of diving opportunities, Micronesia remains high on the list of a diver's preferred destinations.

Palau offers world class land based and live-aboard options. The Palau Pacific Resort has always been our favorite deluxe resort, while the live-aboards are second to none. The Ocean Hunter I & II Palau, , have just been joined by their go-anywhere big sister Ocean Hunter III (see photo below) and all offer 7-12 night trips.

Also in Palau, the Big Blue has always been an excellent option and good value, while there's no question that the popular Palau Aggressor continues to excel. Fish n Fins and Sam’s Dive Tours are the two main land based operators – both superb.

In Truk Lagoon, the Truk Odyssey is still regarded as one of the best there is anywhere and we still have limited dates for 2008 and will be leading a charter on her November 22-29, 2009.
The Pacific Explorer has just arrived in Truk and the Thorfinn is still in a yard undergoing a major refit after her unfortunate accident in Ponape earlier in the year.

Yap is an island that has managed to carefully maintain its fascinating cultural inheritance and the man who supports that more than any other is Bill Acker of Manta Ray Bay Hotel.   Bill sends out a fascinating weekly newsletter of life on the island - the Manta Report - so if you send him a note, I am sure he would be happy to add your address to his list www.mantaray.com
